EAS6680   Chinese Language I   (30 credits)

Year Running: 2016/2017
Credit level: F7

Description

The objectives of this module are to enable students to acquire basic communicative competence in Chinese language across the skills range. Reading and writing skills are taught with an emphasis on structure and principle to provide a solid foundation of core grammar. Practical speaking and listening skills, taught by experienced native speakers, are equally emphasised. Clear, controlled vocabulary attainment targets are set and strategies for character-learning are introduced from the earliest stages. Weekly un-assessed tests facilitate self-directed learning and encourage independent monitoring of progress. By the end of the module students will have acquired a vocabulary of around 450 Chinese characters.
